What are the differences between distribution boxes, distribution cabinets, switchgear, and control boxes?

1. Simply put, the box for distributing electrical energy is called a distribution box. Mainly used for controlling and distributing electrical equipment, providing protection against overload, short circuit, and leakage in power lines. Distribution boxes are installed in various places, such as schools, government agencies, hospitals, factories, workshops, households, etc., such as lighting distribution boxes, power distribution boxes, etc.

A distribution cabinet is a low-voltage distribution device that assembles switchgear, measuring instruments, protective appliances, and auxiliary equipment into a closed or semi closed metal cabinet or screen according to electrical wiring requirements. During normal operation, the circuit can be connected or disconnected using manual or automatic switches. There are many classifications of distribution cabinets. When it malfunctions or operates abnormally, use protective appliances to cut off the circuit or give an alarm. By using measuring instruments, various parameters during operation can be displayed, and certain electrical parameters can also be adjusted to prompt or signal deviations from normal working conditions. Commonly used in various power generation, distribution, and substations.

 

3. A switchgear is a complete set of switchgear and control equipment. It serves as a power center and main distribution device. Mainly used for controlling, monitoring, measuring, and protecting power lines and major electrical equipment. Often installed in substations, distribution rooms, etc.

 

In addition to differences in function, installation environment, internal structure, and controlled objects, the notable characteristics of distribution boxes and switchgear are their different external dimensions. Distribution boxes have a small volume and can be hidden inside walls or stand on the ground; The switchgear has a large volume and can only be installed in substations and distribution rooms.

 

4. The control box is used for power, lighting distribution, and motor control inside and outside various buildings. It is suitable for indoor wall mounted and outdoor floor mounted distribution equipment. Mainly used for fire water pump control, submersible pump control, fire fan control, fan control, lighting distribution control, etc. The control methods include direct start control, star delta voltage reduction start control, self coupling voltage reduction start control, frequency converter start control, soft start control, etc. Isolation switches and fuse switches can also be used as isolation break points.
